Rockland – A Perfect Waterfront Destination

Image result for Rockland city"Located in Knox County, Rockland is a small city in Maine, in the US. The city which was founded in the 18th century has many monumental structures and places that can truly impress you. Tourism is one of the major occupations in this city and you can find lots of hospitality services like international restaurants, resorts, and inns. Visiting Rockland was a relaxing experience for me because even though there are many attractions the place was not crowded. Here are the best spots that are definitely worth a visit,

Farnsworth Art Museum

Dedicated to American art, the Farnsworth Art Museum has a huge collection of paintings, sculptors, photographers, and prints. The entry fee is $15 for adults and for kids it is free. Here you can find nearly 15000 artworks. Besides modern works, there are thousands of classics that date back to the 18th century. The notable collection includes paintings by Jamie Wyeth, N. C. Wyeth, and Andrew Wyeth. You can also find works by other prominent artists like Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Marsden Hartley, Robert Indiana and many more.

Rockland Breakwater Light

Built-in 1902, the historic lighthouse is the major attraction of Rockland harbor. It is located on the famous Rockland Breakwater and offers breathtaking views of the sea and Rockland city. To reach the lighthouse, I had to walk around a mile over the breakwater made of huge granite blocks. The place was windy but the experience was truly exciting. Also, I was fascinated by the sight of large ships and boats sailing in the sea.

Sail Power and Steam Museum

This is a rare museum and truly one of its kind. The place has a shipyard featuring various types of old ships. If you are interested in the history of sailing you should definitely come to this place. The visitors are personally welcomed and guided around by the owner, Captain Jim Sharp. He explains to me how the ships evolved from the time they were driven by sail power to the era of steamboats. He is well known for his expertise in the field and his amicable way of guiding the visitors.
